Goshen, NY — There was a deadly single-car accident this morning (October 10, 2014) that claimed the life of a young woman from Chester. Police said this happened at about 2:30 a.m. Friday morning and identified the victim as Caitlin Felder, 25 years old.
Felder was riding in a Dodge Neon that was being driven by 24-year old Warwick resident, David Schermerhorn. Allegedly, as Schermerhorn was driving along Maple Avenue, he fell asleep at the wheel and lost control.
The car swerved off the side of the roadway and landed in a ditch, catching on fire in the process. The accident killed Caitlin Felder immediately and Schermerhorn was taken to a hospital, where he was taken to a hospital to be treated.
Police said they’re going to investigate why Schermerhorn fell asleep at the wheel that morning. However, it’s not clear if anyone is going to investigate exactly why the Dodge Neon caught fire so quickly after landing the ditch.
