Columbus, NE — There was a major accident between a car and a semi-truck this past Friday afternoon (October 3, 2014) that critically injured a man from Lincoln. Police said that Asuncion Ciriaco-Rodriguez was critically injured after the vehicle he was in was hit by a semi-truck just southwest of Humphrey.
The accident happened last Friday afternoon at about 3:15 p.m., at the intersection of 310th Avenue and 415th Street. Ciriaco-Rodriguez was riding as a passenger in Ben Ramirez’ vehicle, which was headed east along 415th Street.
As their car approached the intersection with 310th Avenue, Ramirez proceeded through it and into the path of a northbound semi-truck. The two vehicles collided and injured both Ben Ramirez and Asuncion Ciriaco-Rodriguez.
Police said that Ciriaco-Rodriguez was taken to a Lincoln hospital, where he was last said to be in critical condition. Ramirez was not badly injured and the driver of the semi-truck (Terence Foltz) wasn’t injured at all.
Afterwards, police noted that east-west traffic on 415th Street has a stop sign, while north-south traffic on 310th Avenue does not.
