XENIA TOWNSHIP, OH — Judith Sandlin was injured in a dump truck accident that happened in Xenia Township, Ohio on Thursday, September 25th, 2014. The news says the accident happened around 3:10 Thursday afternoon.
63-year-old Judith Sandlin was hurt when the minivan she was driving was hit by a rolling dump truck. Authorities think the dump truck tipped after losing control on Highway 42. The truck landed on part of the van, trapping Sandlin in the vehicle for about half an hour before rescuers could free her.
Sandlin was rushed by EMS to a Miami Valley Hospital where she was being treated for a number of injuries.
The driver of the dump truck was identified as Carl Schmedeke, who was cited for assured clear distance.
Ohio Police are helping with the accident investigation.

From what I can see in the news, this accident looks fairly straightforward. Dump truck drivers have a duty to make sure they drive in a manner to avoid tipping their extremely top-heavy vehicles, and when they don’t, accidents like this happen. Commercial vehicles don’t simply tip when they are driven responsibly, and the victim in this accident is extremely lucky she wasn’t killed.
