Commentary:
Whenever the National Transportation Safety Board conducts an investigation into a plane crash like this one, you can assume its going to take a very long time. In my experience, sometimes up to a year or a year and a half. Why? Well, the NTSB is in charge of every plane crash that happens in the country, which is like an agency the size of the NYPD handling every car accident in the country. As you can imagine, the agency is overworked and spread thin. This is where an independent investigation comes in handy. Conducting an independent evaluation of the evidence is a good way to get families of victims answers much timelier than the NTSB can. Furthermore, it affords the family with much more time to weigh their options should the investigation show that the accident was preventable.
