Waldo, AR — A local woman died yesterday (Monday, September 22, 2014) after her vehicle was in a wreck with a log truck on U.S. Highway 82. This happened just outside of Waldo and the woman who passed away was identified as 71-year old Linda Joyce Morgan.
Police are saying that Morgan was driving her car – a Buick – along U.S. 82 eastbound and a log truck was headed west. The reports here aren’t very clear, but it appears that Morgan’s car crashed into the rear-left part of the log truck near Columbia Road 150. There’s no mention as to whether one of the drivers had swerved into oncoming traffic or lost control.
The truck driver, Kenneth Dixon, wasn’t injured by the wreck, but Morgan passed away immediately.
This happened at about 2:30 p.m. Monday afternoon and the ASP haven’t filed any charges because their investigation is still ongoing.

Commentary:
Well, the news reports didn’t really provide a lot of details here, but it almost sounds as if the log truck was making a turn. I mean, how else would the woman’s car have hit the back part of the truck unless it was turning? I don’t mean to sound accusatory here (because I obviously didn’t witness the wreck), but it wouldn’t surprise me to learn that the log truck driver simply misjudged how much time he had to make his turn.
Now, I could be completely wrong here and the police may find that the victim lost control of her own car. But I’ve handled plenty of cases involving accidents that have similar fact patterns and the police reports were never the gospel truth – I always had to do a secondary and more in-depth investigation.
