Two Injured in Multi-Vehicle Accident on Pennsylvania Turnpike in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania

Fort Washintgon, PA — Two people were injured in an accident involving three vehicles, including a box truck, in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania, on Thursday, September 11, 2014. The accident took place around 2:30 in the afternoon.

Police are still investigating the incident. At this point, details concerning the cause of the accident are still scarce. One of the vehicles overturned in the collision, and pictures from the scene make it seem as if the box truck may have crashed into it.

The names of those involved in the accident have not been released and there’s been no word on the conditions of those who were injured.

Commentary

We don’t know too much about this accident right now. Aside from a couple of pictures taken at the scene, we really don’t know what happened, so I’d like to keep my comments very general. From the pictures, it seems as if the box truck collided with a passenger vehicle, causing it to overturn. If that’s the case — and again, it very well may not be — but if it is, I’m hard pressed to think of a situation in which a box truck is going to be justified crashing into a vehicle in front of it. If that happens, the driver is typically guilty of one of two things: One, he was driving too fast, or two, he wasn’t traveling at a safe enough distance. If that turns out to be what happened here, there’s a good chance the driver of the truck would be found liable for the accident, and that those injured would have a claim against him. Hopefully, we’ll have a more complete picture of what went down here in the coming days.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
