Austin, TX — Austin police have identified David Anderson and his wife Malea Anderson as the victims in a plane crash in Austin, Texas, on Wednesday, September 9, 2014. The accident took place as Anderson was attempting to land his Piper Aerostar at Austin-Bergstrom Internation Airport.
At this point, investigators have very little to go on as to what caused the accident. Authorities say Anderson took off from Dallas at 12:30 that afternoon, with the accident taking place at 1:26. Before the crash, there was no communication from the plane that anything had gone wrong.
Anderson and his wife were the only victims of the accident. The crashed set off a three-acre brush fire in a field just north of the airport.
Austin police, as well as the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are currently investigating the accident.

Commentary
Reports say that the investigation is being conducted by the FAA and NTSB, in addition to Austin police. That’s good. Those agencies are very good at what they do. However, one part of their investigations that always seems to be detrimental to victims and their families is how long it takes for them to be completed. Of course, we want them to be thorough, but look at it like this: If there was something wrong with the plane, if it was found that some crucial piece of circuitry had malfunctioned, the clock on the statute of limitations starts running the day the accident occurs, not the day the problem is discovered, or the investigation is concluded. And some of these investigation can take up to six months to complete. In cases like these, it’s always advisable to have a private investigation conducted. Because in a situation like this, time is always of the essence.
