Fort Worth, TX — One person is dead and two are injured in an accident that police have reason to believe may have been caused by alcohol. The accident took place in the 12000 block of White Settlement Road in Fort Worth, Texas, on Monday, September 1, 2014.
According to local reports, Shane Knapp was driving a 1967 Mustang with his daughter, Shana, and her friend Bailey Goss as passengers. They collided with a Toyota van traveling in the opposite direction.
Goss was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Both Knapp and his daughter were taken to John Peter Smith Hospital with serious injuries. Officials reported that Knapp had been put in a medically-induced coma and was bleeding from his brain. His daughter had sustained back and liver injuries.
After being tipped that Knapp may have been drinking before the accident, authorities took a blood sample and sent it off to be analyzed. They’re still waiting on the results.

People have a responsibility to create a safe driving environment for those they’re driving with. If the driver in this case was drinking before he got into a car with two teenagers, he’s going to be held liable for the accident. It’s possible that if he were at a bar, visibly intoxicated, and still being served that the bar would also share in some of that liability. That may very well be the case. However, from what’s been reported, it doesn’t sound like it. Even if it were the case, that wouldn’t somehow rid him of his responsibility in the matter. The driver made the decision to get behind the wheel of the car, and if authorities find that he was intoxicated the time, he needs to be held responsible for that.
