Oakland, CA — Sean Alberts was identified as the passenger that was killed when the vehicle he was riding in became pinned beneath a big rig on Interstate 880 in Oakland, California. The accident took place near 10th Avenue, around nine at night.
Alberts had to be extricated from his vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife, who was driving the car at the time, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Highland Hospital.
Police have reported that the driver of the truck is cooperating with the authorities’ investigation. They don’t believe that alcohol or drugs contributed to the accident. At this time, it’s unclear if the truck driver was the cause of the accident.

As yet, there’s not a lot to go off of here. Yes, the car was found pinned beneath the big rig, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that one or the other is at fault. However, one thing we can be sure of is that, regardless of whether or not the truck the driver is at fault, it’s a near certainty that the trucking company will defend him. A commercial vehicle is required to carry quite a bit of insurance. And regardless of whether or not the trucking company is at fault, that’s just too much money to leave on the table. It eats into their bottom line, and — according to their thinking, anyway — heads off any frivolous lawsuits down the line. It’s unfortunate that this is the way it works, but there you have it. So, if the truck driver is in fact liable, it looks like the surviving victim is still going to have a bumpy road to recovery.
