Sean Alberts Killed in Big Rig Accident Interstate 880 in Oakland, California

Oakland, CA — Sean Alberts was identified as the passenger that was killed when the vehicle he was riding in became pinned beneath a big rig on Interstate 880 in Oakland, California. The accident took place near 10th Avenue, around nine at night.

Alberts had to be extricated from his vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife, who was driving the car at the time, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Highland Hospital.

Police have reported that the driver of the truck is cooperating with the authorities’ investigation. They don’t believe that alcohol or drugs contributed to the accident. At this time, it’s unclear if the truck driver was the cause of the accident.

As yet, there’s not a lot to go off of here. Yes, the car was found pinned beneath the big rig, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that one or the other is at fault. However, one thing we can be sure of is that, regardless of whether or not the truck the driver is at fault, it’s a near certainty that the trucking company will defend him. A commercial vehicle is required to carry quite a bit of insurance. And regardless of whether or not the trucking company is at fault, that’s just too much money to leave on the table. It eats into their bottom line, and — according to their thinking, anyway — heads off any frivolous lawsuits down the line. It’s unfortunate that this is the way it works, but there you have it. So, if the truck driver is in fact liable, it looks like the surviving victim is still going to have a bumpy road to recovery.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
