Vernon, TX authorities stated that a single-vehicle accident on August 25, 2012 left three people injured, including 33-year old driver Zachary Swanson and passenger Stephan Guest. According to reports, Swanson was driving south along US-287, about five miles north of Vernon, when he may have fallen asleep and left the roadway in his 2002 Pontiac.

The Pontiac then swerved across the highway and drove into a field, where it overturned at least once. The accident caused some grass and brush in the field to ignite after the occupants had been extricated from the vehicle and were being treated by medical personnel. Guest was treated for serious injuries, reports said, but Swanson’s condition was not available.
