St. Augustine, FL — Two tractor trailer drivers were hospitalized after an accident on Interstate 95 in St. Augustine, Florida, on Friday, August 1, 2014. The accident took place near World Golf Village, around 3:30 in the afternoon.
According to officers with the Florida Highway Patrol, John Carver — who was illegally operating his vehicle — was driving along 95 and drifted into the lane of David Styron, crashing into his vehicle. The collision overturned Carver’s truck, spilling 60,000 pounds of sand all over the freeway. Emergency workers took him to University of Florida Health in serious condition.
Styron suffered minor injuries and was also taken to UF Health. FHP have said that alcohol did not play a role in the accident.
Carver was cited for driving with a suspended license and failing to maintain a single lane, among other infractions.
