Orange County, TX — The driver of a Freightliner truck was injured in a collision with another 18-wheeler in Orange County, Texas, on Tuesday, August 5, 2014. The accident took place on Interstate 10, around four in the morning.
According to local police, the Freightliner was traveling next to an 18-wheeler in the outside lane when it began veering from side to side, eventually hitting the 18-wheeler and driving both vehicles onto the shoulder.
The driver of the Freightliner had to be extricated from his vehicle by emergency workers before being taken to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth. The driver of the 18-wheeler, as well as a passenger inside the truck were not injured.
Hazmat crews were called into deal with a fuel spill caused by the crash.
While the collision is still under investigation, police believe the driver of the Freightliner may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
