UPDATE: Sajaad Syed Killed in Alleged Drunk Driving Accident in Naperville, Illinois

NAPERVILLE, IL — A single-vehicle accident that police believe was alcohol related claimed the lives of two individuals in Naperville, Illinois on Saturday, July 19th, 2014, according to the article released by WGN.

Authorities think that 21-year-old Sajaad Syed was killed when the vehicle in which he was a passenger is thought to have driven off Aurora Avenue at the intersection with Eagle Street.

Scene of the Accident

Sajaad Syed was pronounced dead on the scene, along with fellow passenger Mihirtej Boddupalli. The driver of the vehicle was identified in the report as 21-year-old Michael Szot, who currently faces drunk driving related charges in connection with the accident.

The investigation into the crash is currently underway by Naperville officials.

Commentary:

You may be unaware of the fact that a driver that is found to have consumed alcohol at their own home is different than somebody who drank at a bar after a crash like this one. The main difference? When drinking at a bar, another person has the chance, and the legal responsibility to cut off a customer the moment they feel that they could be approaching the legal limit of .08 BAC. If the bar any driver failed to do this, and their customer then kills or injures another person on the road, the bar could have a third party dram shop claim levied against it, as they should.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
