UPDATE: Jordan Smith Injured in Tractor-Trailer Accidnet in Washington County, Oklahoma

WASHINGTON COUNTY, OK — A two-vehicle collision between a tractor-trailer and a passenger car left one driver dead and a passenger in the hospital in Washington County, Oklahoma on Saturday, July 19th, 2014, according to the news article released by KRMG.

According to representatives from the Oklahoma State Police, they believe Jordan Smith was hurt when the vehicle in which he was a passenger is believed to have collided with the trailer of a semi-truck that was turning while driving on Highway 75.

Scene of the Accident

Jordan Smith was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was last reported in critical condition. The driver of the vehicle was identified in the report as Jared Clark, who was pronounced dead on the scene by emergency responders when they arrived.

The investigation into the accident is currently being handled by officials from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Commentary:

This is one accident where a lot of the end results weighs heavily on the layout of the road and the final facts reported in the investigation. If the truck driver did not have the right-of-way, then the trucking company could bear the brunt of the fault in this crash. However, if the driver of the truck did have the right of way, and the driver of the passenger car was speeding, there could be a claim against the driver’s insurance, again, it all depends on how the final facts fall into place.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
