Perry, OH — According to a report coming out of Perry, Ohio, an accident with an 18-wheeler left one person dead and another injured on Saturday, July 19, 2014. The accident took place on U.S. 30, around five in the morning.
Stephen Young was driving a motorcycle with Christina Barkett when they were hit by an 18-wheeler being driven by Joseph Hardman. Both Young and Barkett were taken to Aultman Hospital were serious injuries.
Barkett passed away from her injuries. There’s been no update on Young’s condition.
Hardman was uninjured in the accident. Police say that alcohol does another appear to have contributed to the accident.

Reports say that this accident took place around five in the morning. The first thing I’m wondering is, how long had it been since the driver last slept? Unfortunately, truck drivers are under more and more pressure these days to make deliveries in shorter amounts of time. In most case, they’re not being paid unless their wheels are moving. These factors together lead to a lot of drivers making decisions that aren’t always in their best interests, not to mention the best interests of those around them. It’s possible that the accident occurred for completely different reasons. But given the time, and the propensity for these sorts of things to happen, I think it’s important that this be looked at.
