Commentary
Police are investigating the accident, but I have to wonder how much good the official police report is going to be here. I’m sure it’ll do a fine job telling us what happened — the pickup truck crashed into the 18-wheeler — but it won’t really be able to tell us who’s liable for the accident. And people should remember that those two things aren’t necessarily synonymous. I’d like to give the driver of the 18-wheeler the benefit of the doubt, but I’ve got a few questions. 18-wheelers aren’t really known for being able to make hairpin turns. Why would the drive pull out into the street without enough time to make his turn before any oncoming traffic caught up with him? Was he looking out for oncoming traffic, or just hoping anyone else out on the road would see an 18-wheeler and hopefully be able to stop in time? Someone here wasn’t paying attention to the road. I think thing would be for a private investigation to be conducted. Fortunately, there will be evidence left at the scene that will be able to help determine what happened that day.
