Porterville, CA — A woman was killed when a vehicle ran a stop sign and crashed into her car in Porterville, California, on Tuesday, July 8, 2014. The accident took place at the intersection of Westwood Street and Westfield Avenue, around 5:15 in the morning.
The man who ran the stop sign has been identified as Juan Ahumada. He was injured in the accident and taken to Community Regional Medical Center. He’s reported to be in stable condition.
The victim was taken to Sierra View District Hospital and passed away a short time later. Her name has not been released.
The accident is still being investigated.

If what’s being reported about this accident is true, and I have no reason to believe it isn’t, then Ahumada is going to be held liable for the accident. If he ran a stop sign, then he’s obviously in the wrong and could be found liable for the accident. People should understand that being found at fault by the police is not the same as being found liable for an accident. Being ticketed doesn’t obligate you to cover someone’s medical bills.
