ODESSA, TX — A collision between a pickup truck and a car left one man in critical condition in Odessa, Texas on Tuesday, July 15th, 2014, according to the news report from The Permian Basin 360.

Investigators familiar with the crash details believe that 24-year-old Juan Porras was hurt when the Dodge Challenger he was driving is believed to have collided with a Ford F250 for reasons currently under investigation while driving in the 1300 block of West 8th Street.

Scene of the Accident

Authorities transported Juan Porras to Medical Center Hospital where he remained in critical condition. None of the four occupants in the pickup truck reported immediate injuries following the crash.

The Odessa Police Department and the Odessa Fire Rescue responded to the crash, and hope to release more information pertaining to the crash in the coming days.

Commentary:

The news article outlining this accident indicates that the driver of the car is thought to have been speeding and failed to stay in his lane, if this is true, the driver of the car will probably be found responsible for the accident, but this is by no means certain. Any time a case comes across my desk where the assumed guilty party was cited for a crash, people seem to think that it is an automatic win, but I casually remind them that just as they have the ability to contest a speeding ticket, so can those cited after an accident. Either way, an accident investigator really needs to have a closer look at this situation to give us a better idea of what really happened, even if it turns out to be identical to the news outlet’s version of events.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
