Two killed in Tractor-Trailer Accident on Highway 690 in Fort Bragg, North Carolina

FORT BRAGG, NC — A two-vehicle accident that was reported in Fort Bragg, North Carolina left two people dead on Tuesday, July 15th, 2014, according to the news report from My Fox 8.

Authorities from the North Carolina State Police have said that they have reason to believe two people died when a pickup truck, a car, and a tractor-trailer collided for reasons currently under investigation while driving on Highway 690.

Scene of the Accident

Emergency responders pronounced two people dead on the scene after the accident. The driver of the tractor-trailer did not report immediate injuries following the crash.

North Carolina Highway Patrol is working in conjunction with the Fort Bragg Police Department to determine what may have caused the accident.

Commentary:

An accident involving just two vehicles can be infuriating and confusing, but when you factor in a chain-reaction accident with more than two vehicles, things get even more complicated. There are often multiple theories as to what may have caused the accident, and some of these theories often contradict one another, boiling a major accident down to a he-said-she-said scenario that bogs things down even further. For these situations, the State of North Carolina defers to a system of contributory negligence, wherein a person makes a claim against a negligent driver, but cannot be awarded damages if their own negligence caused the accident. Deciphering this kind of red tape often requires an experienced attorney, in addition to leveling the playing field of experience in handling accident cases.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
