Commentary
This is going to be a situation in which the police report isn’t going to do a lot of good. Police reports are more concerned with telling you what happened in an accident, rather than who’s liable. And those two things aren’t always synonymous with each other. Looking at this accident specifically, it’s easy to imagine scenarios in which the 18-wheeler is at fault, and others in which the victims are. In these situations, conducting a private investigation is always recommended, because a private investigator is going to be able to get in there and tell you things a police report won’t. I’ve conducted several in my years as an attorney, and have seen firsthand what a help they can be to victims and their families.
