UPDATE: Iris Wagner Killed in Car Accident in Grant County, Wisconsin

GRANT COUNTY, WI — A two-vehicle collision left one woman dead in Grant County, Wisconsin on Friday, July 11th, 2014, according to a news report from Madison Online.

Authorities believe Iris Wagner was killed when the vehicle she was driving was struck head-on by a pickup truck that is believed to have crossed the median of Highway 133 around 4:30 Friday afternoon.

Scene of the Accident

Iris Wagner was pronounced dead on the scene by paramedics when they arrived. The driver of the offending vehicle was identified in the report as Derek Harris, who was taken by EMS in a helicopter to a hospital with unspecified injuries.

The Wisconsin State Police are helping with the crash investigation at this time.

Commentary:

This is one fact pattern where the responsible party is probably going to be the vehicle that did the crossing over. In these cases, a claim against the insurance of the offending driver is probably going to be the first avenue to take. Unless there is a detail I’m missing, like the other car’s steering column locked up, which is perfectly plausible with the amount of automotive recalls we see these days. If this is the case, then the auto manufacturer could be responsible for the accident.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
