Anton, TX — A woman and her granddaughter were both killed in an accident with a wrong-way drive near Anton, Texas, on Monday, July 14, 2014. The accident took place on Highway 84, around nine in the morning.
Police received phone calls about a driver, identified as Jeffrey Howard, driving the wrong way on Highway 84. Police were sent out to intercept Howard’s vehicle, but were too late, as calls reporting the crash came in a short time later.
Killed in the accident were 82-year old Patricia Mendez and her 8-year old granddaughter Ava McWhiter. Police pronounced both dead at the scene.
Emergency workers were able to remove Howard from his car before it became engulfed in flames. He was taken to a nearby hospital and is reported to be in satisfactory condition.
