Commentary
This may be a good time to talk a little bit about uninsured motorist coverage. There are times when an 18-wheeler will crash into someone’s car. The accident will obviously cause damage to the vehicle, and can also cause injury or death to those inside. In those instances, the trucking company’s insurance policy will cover the damage. Other times, a car will hit an 18-wheeler, causing damage, and seriously injuring or even killing the truck’s driver. In those cases, it’s almost a sure bet that the driver’s insurance isn’t going to be able to cover the damage. Planning for that eventuality, companies will sometimes purchase an uninsured motorist policy. What that is is a policy that the company will pay a premium for that will step in an cover whatever the liable party’s insurance cannot. This way, damage to the truck, and more importantly, the driver, will be covered.
