UPDATE: Wayne Palmer Killed in Plane Crash in Ansley, Nebraska

ANSLEY, NE — A plane crash claimed the life of one man in Ansley, Nebraska on Tuesday, July 8th, 2014, according to the news article from The Nebraska Journal Star.

Authorities say that they believe Wayne Palmer was killed when the ultralight plane he was flying crashed for reasons currently under investigation on a patch of private land just outside Ansley around 8:00 Tuesday morning.

Scene of the Accident

Wayne Palmer died as a result of the crash. A passenger in the plane was identified as Charles Roberts, who was immediately unhurt in the collision.

Representatives from the Federal Aviation Administration are helping with the investigation.

Commentary:

Many people out there may think that plane crash investigations are handled similarly to regular car accidents, but they’d be pretty far from the truth. Whereas your typical car crash is undertaken by representatives from the local authorities, or the highway patrol if things are serious enough, but with every single aircraft incident, the National Transportation Safety Board is the sole agency. Needless to say, the agency is overburdened with the amount of accidents they have backlogged. Imagine if the largest police department in the nation, the New York Police Department was responsible for handling every single car accident in the country. The NYPD currently has thirty thousand officers, and the NTSB has fewer than 400. The time these accidents take to investigate often frustrates families looking for answers, which is why an independent investigation can get to the truth faster, as well as grant families more time to consider their course of action.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
