One Injured in Tractor-Trailer Accident on Highway 6 in College Station, Texas

COLLEGE STATION, TX — A chain-reaction accident involving three vehicles sent one driver to the hospital in College Station, Texas on Wednesday, July 9th, 2014, according to the news report from KBTX.

Police said that they think an as-of-yet unidentified 22-year-old man was hurt when the pickup truck he was driving collided with a tractor-trailer that is believed to have slowed for construction for reasons currently under investigation while driving on Highway 6.

Scene of the Accident

The unidentified pickup truck driver had to be cut from the wreckage and was taken by EMS personnel to a nearby hospital where an update on their condition was currently unavailable.

The Texas Department of Transportation was assisting the College Station Fire Department.

Commentary:

Just from what the news is reporting, I’m leaning toward the pickup truck driver being faulted for the accident. Rear end accidents can be difficult to argue from a rear-driver’s standpoint. Barring a major brake light failure on the part of the tractor-trailer, more than likely this accident will fall into the lap of the rear driver, but what if his insurance policy is inadequate and does not cover the damage. In this case, an under-insured motorist coverage policy would bridge the gap between the offending driver’s upper policy limit and the actual total of the damages.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
