Commentary:
Whenever I see a fact pattern that illustrates a tractor-trailer erupting into flames after a collision, my first instinct would be to trace the source of the fire. Many of the tractor-trailers you see on the road today are built with a large gas tank mounted externally beneath the driver’s step just below the door. This is perfect striking distance for both small passenger cars and other large trucks alike. If one of the gas tanks on either one of these trucks burst, and made this accident worse, the offending truck’s manufacturer could be liable for the damage.
On the other hand, I’m also curious as to why the other truck crossed over, simply for the fact that trucker’s attention is often grabbed by the multitude of electronics, personal and otherwise in their vehicle. If one of the truckers was distracted, the trucking company could share the blame as well. Surely though, this is an accident that requires careful inspection and investigation.
