UPDATE: Julia Almeyda Killed in Car Accident in Pomona , California

POMONA VALLEY, CA — A two-vehicle crash left a passenger dead and a driver in the hospital in Pomona Valley, California on Sunday, July 6th, 2014, according to the report from The Daily Bulletin.

Authorities from the California Highway Patrol say that they believe 82-year-old Julia Almeyda was killed when the vehicle in which she was a passenger is believed to have pulled in front of a van before being struck while driving on Foothill Boulevard at the intersection with Towne Avenue.

Scene of the Accident

Emergency Medical Technicians transported Julia Almeyda to nearby Pomona Valley Medical Center where an update on their condition was not made available.

The investigation is currently being handled by local and state officials, and they expect to release their findings at a later date.

Commentary:

The news article says that the car the victim was in was turning at the time of the accident, which really makes me wonder how fast the other vehicle was going at the time of the accident. Almost every one of us has had to turn across traffic at some point or another and timed the turn perfectly, only to look in our rear view once we’ve crossed traffic to see we have been narrowly missed by a speeding vehicle. If the driver of the other vehicle was speeding, and the driver could not gauge, the other vehicle could bear the liability in this situation.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
