Commentary
Despite the fact that the FAA and the NTSB are very good at what they, there’s a downside to any investigation they run: they often take too long to complete. I’ve seen their investigations run upwards of six months. If your a victim of a plane crash, or a member of a victim’s family, you’re probably going to want answers faster than that. What’s more, a plane accident’s statute of limitations is measured against the date of the accident, not the completion of the investigation. So every day an investigation drags on is a day that’s working against you. In this case, I would recommend that a private investigation be conducted. I’ve led several in my years as an attorney and have always been able to get my clients answers in a much more reasonable amount of time.
