UPDATE: Ray Doty Injured in Suspected Alcohol Related Accident in San Angelo, Texas

SAN ANGELO, TX — A single-vehicle accident left two people injured in San Angelo, Texas on Monday, July 7th, 2014, according to the report from Go San Angelo.

Investigators think that 21-year-old Ray Doty was hurt when the pickup truck he was driving is thought to have lost control for for reasons currently under investigation while driving on Loop 306. The vehicle left the road before colliding with a nearby credit union.

Scene of the Accident

Ray Doty was taken by EMS personnel to a nearby hospital for the treatment of his unspecified injuries. The passenger in the vehicle was identified as 19-year-old Devin Tinney.

The police are trying to determine what, if any role alcohol played in the accident.

San Angelo Police hope to release the investigation’s findings in the coming days.

Commentary:

If alcohol is found to have caused this accident, people may wonder how differently the situation would be held from a run of the mill crash. In Texas, there exist extensive liquor liability laws that allow citizens to hold bars liable for accidents caused by their negligent service. What constitutes negligent service? Any time a clearly intoxicated person is served, or a person is served from sobriety, beyond the point of obvious drunkenness, the bar can be held liable for any damage they cause after leaving.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
