Brown County, TX — An ATV accident in Brown County, Texas, that left a man seriously injured, may have been caused by alcohol use. The accident took place on Oak Point Drive, near Lake Brownwood, around 7:30 in the evening.
In all, six people were involved in the accident, with three of them having sustained injuries. All six were in their 20s.
Two individuals’ had injuries described by officials as non-life-threatening. The third individual, identified as Kyle Thaxton, had to be flown to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth for the treatment of his injuries. By Monday, Thaxton was listed in fair condition.
Officials discovered that Parveen Gill, a 26-year old female from San Antonio, Texas, and the driver of the ATV was intoxicated when the accident occurred. A breathalyzer test revealed a BAC of .103. The legal level in Texas in .08. Gill was placed under arrest and charged with DUI and intoxication assault with serious bodily injury. She has since been released on bond.

People tend to forget that not only is getting behind the wheel of a car while intoxicated dangerous, but also getting behind the wheel of other vehicles, like motorcycles and ATVs. In some cases, it can even be more dangerous because there’s less there to protect you if you run into a ditch or into a tree or something of that nature.
This is something the driver should have realized. As we see, she didn’t (perhaps because she had been drinking), and her passenger was seriously injured. Now, she’s become liable for the accident, for his injuries. A driver has a duty to create a safe atmosphere for those he or she is transporting, and in this case, the driver let her passenger down.
