SAN MARCOS, TX — A chain-reaction accident that happened in San Marcos, Texas on Friday, July 4th, 2014 is believed to have been alcohol related, according to the news from The Austin American Statesman.
Police think that 29-year-old Chad Calkins was hurt when the vehicle he was in became involved in a six-vehicle accident that started when a Nissan Altima collided with a Dodge Neon while turning on Co Rd 101 from Highway 80 on Friday afternoon.
Scene of the Accident
Chad Calkins was taken by MES personnel with eight other victims where an update on their condition was immediately available.
The driver of the offending vehicle has been identified as 20-year-old Leontly Oleg, who is currently being investigated for the possibility of drunk driving in connection with the crash.
Scene of the Accident
If police determine that alcohol was the cause of the crash, the next step should be finding where the driver was drinking before the accident. Victims in these accidents need to understand that alcohol related accidents are very different animals then your average-run-of-the-mill crash. In Texas, when we’re talking about alcohol related accidents, there could be another liable party involved besides the driver if they are found to have come from a bar, nightclub, or alcohol serving restaurant. Any of these business could be liable for the accident if they are found to have served the offending driver outside safe or responsible regulation dictates, and considering the driver is below the legal drinking age of 21, I’d be willing to go out on a limb and say there could be some serious questions aimed at the bar.
