Commentary
There are times when a driver doesn’t pay attention to the road ahead of him, causes an accident, and the victim walks away with no more than some scrapes and bruises. And then there are times like this, when several people are hurt, and several people are killed. And from the sound of it, that’s just what happened here: The accident was caused because traffic had slowed down and the driver of the truck wasn’t paying attention.
Why wasn’t he paying attention? Is it possible he was on his phone? Was he distracted by something in his cab? Was it driver fatigue? How long had the driver been out on the road when the accident happened? Because truck drivers are generally only considered to be on the clock when their tires are rolling, they’re sometimes indirectly encouraged to make bad choices. In any case, the trucking company has a lot to answer for here.
