CORPUS CHRISTI, TX — A cement truck accident left five people hospitalized in Corpus Christi on Tuesday, July 1st, 2014, according to the news article released by KIII-TV.
Police familiar with the situation have said that five people were hurt when a cement truck is believed to have experienced a sudden tire blowout before the vehicle plowed through to concrete dividers and crashed into a number of vehicles in oncoming traffic while driving on South Padre Island Drive around 11:00 Tuesday morning.

Five people were rushed to a number of hospitals for the treatment of their injuries. Updates on their conditions or the extent or nature of their injuries were immediately unavailable.
Representatives from the Texas Department of Transportation is currently investigating the crash.
Commentary:
The few articles I’ve read about this accident indicate that a tire blowout could be to blame for the accident. Many people would look at this kind of fact pattern and call the accident unavoidable, when in reality, I’ve never come across an accident that was unavoidable, save for lightning strikes and other acts of God. Ultimately this truck is owned by a company who more than likely has some person in charge of maintenance and inspections. If this truck went a long time without a tire change or even an air-up, the company would be held responsible, just as you would be if your vehicle fell into disrepair and caused a collision. On the other hand, if the company was up to par, and the tire was defective, the manufacturer of the tire could be faulted, either way, a trained eye needs to get a crack at the evidence.
