Commentary
What I’ve read in the media about this accident says that the flatbed trailer was being backed into a private driveway. Fair enough. However, the trailer was blocking the westbound lanes of Highway 32 at the time. Any defense that the driver of the trailer puts forward is going to include some riff on, “You should have seen me and slowed down.” However, telling people that you’re there and taking up the entire road doesn’t excuse you from any and all accidents that happen as a result of you being there and taking up the entire road. There are still laws that need to be followed. There are still other people that need to be considered. And from what’s transpired, it seems as though the driver of the flatbed came up short on that.
