Dallas, TX — A man was hospitalized after being hit by a wrong-way driver who authorities say was legally drunk in Dallas, Texas, on Sunday, June 22, 2014. The accident took place at the intersection of Interstate 345 and Live Oak Street.
According to local authorities, a call was received saying that a black SUV was driving the wrong way on the interstate. A short time later, the call came in that the SUV had collided with a pickup truck driven by a 24-year old man.
Emergency workers were called in to extricate the men from the vehicles. They were both taken to Baylor University Medical Center.
A toxicology test was performed on Uriel Garcia-Celaya, the driver of the black SUV. The results said that he had a blood alcohol level of 0.215. The legal limit in Texas is 0.08.
Garcia-Celaya carries previous drunk driving conviction from April, 2010.

This accident took place around five in the morning. Let’s look at that. At that hour, definitely not everybody, but many people are on their way home from bars and clubs. Police have confirmed that Garcia-Celaya was definitely drunk at the time of the accident. Was he at a bar? It’s very possible. Is it also possible he was being over served? His BAC was over two and half times the legal limit, so again, very possible. If he was visibly drunk and still being served alcohol, it’s possible that the bar could also be liable for the accident. Garcia-Celaya was the person behind the wheel. He’s guilty in any case. However, if the bar played a role in getting him where he was instead of cutting him off, then they should also be held responsible.
