Bell, CA — Fourteen people were injured when a Metro bus crashed into a light pole in Bell, California, on Sunday, June 15, 2014. The accident took place at the intersection of Atlantic and Florence Avenues, around 6:45 in the morning.
According to reports, eight ambulances were called to the scene to transport the injured to local hospitals. Their names and information on the extent of their injuries have not been released.
At this time, officials are still trying to determine what caused the accident.

The news reports I’ve read on this accident don’t mention any other vehicles that were involved, so I’m led to believe that the accident involved the bus and the bus alone. It could have been caused by any number of things, but typically, the accidents I see that involve only one driver are caused by 1) driver inattention, or 2) going too fast and failing to negotiate a curve. Again, we have no proof that either of those things happened here, but it needs to be looked into. If it is found to be the bus driver’s fault, things don’t look great for the passengers who were injured, as sovereign immunity makes recovering damages from any municipal entity very difficult. Not impossible, mind you, but very difficult.
