MONTGOMERY, TX — A two-vehicle accident claimed the life of one woman in Montgomery, Texas on Sunday, June 15th, 2014, according to a news article released by The Montgomery County Police Reporter.
Authorities familiar with information from the crash say that Debra McFarland was killed when the Toyota Highlander she was driving is believed to have experienced some kind of mechanical fault while driving on Highway 249 around 10:00 Sunday morning. The SUV collided with the rear of a Honda Pilot in the collision.

Debra McFarland was killed in the crash. The passenger in her vehicle was taken to a nearby hospital with unspecified injuries.
Harris County Sheriff’s officials are investigating the crash.
Commentary:
The fact that the article mentions a mechanical error, as well as describing the nature of the error should be a big red flag to all those involved. We all hear in the news stories about major vehicle manufacturers issuing a recall of some kind. Most notably and recently were sticking accelerators and locking steering columns. If this vehicle experienced a catastrophic failure, there would be evidence of this within the vehicle, and all it would take is a trained eye pointed in the right direction to find the evidence of where the problem happened. If this crash was the result of the mechanical failure described in the article, the car manufacturer could be liable.
