Salt Lake City, UT — A man was killed by drunk driver after a hit and run accident that took place on Saturday, May 31, 2014, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Police say Porfirio Zamora was speeding in the parking lot of an apartment complex when he his Frank Martinez. Porfirio fled the scene.
Police caught up with him a few minutes later. When they spoke with him, they said that he smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech. When police performed a breathalyzer test, they found his BAC at nearly three times the legal limit.
Frank Martinez suffered several broken and fractured bones as well as brain injuries. He passed away on Wednesday, June 4.
Porfirio has been charged with DUI.

Police say that the driver of the vehicle was drunk when the accident occurred. Let’s take a look at that. When did the accident occur? Was it late at night? If the driver had been drinking, where was he drinking? He had consumed quite a bit of alcohol, and should have been cut off long before things got that bad. Is it possible that whoever was serving him saw that he was intoxicated and served him anyway. If that’s the case, Utah’s dram shop laws may also hold the bar liable for the accident. Further investigation is going to be needed here.
