UPDATE: Joel Fonseca Injured in Suspected Drunk Driving Accident in San Antonio, Texas

SAN ANTONIO, TX — A two-vehicle accident involving an SUV and a motorcycle sent one man to the hospital in San Antonio, Texas on Monday, June 9th, 2014, according to a news article released by My San Antonio.

Authorities tasked with leading the crash investigation have said that they have reason to believe that Joel Fonseca was hurt when the Harley Davidson motorcycle he was driving collided with the rear of a Honda CRV while driving on Interstate 35 around 1:30 Monday night.

Scene of the Accident

Joel Fonseca was taken by EMS personnel to a nearby hospital where he remained in serious condition after the accident. The driver did not report immediate injuries after the accident.

The San Antonio Police Department is still evaluating the crash.

Commentary:

The fact that the driver of the vehicle admitted to consuming alcohol at a bar before the crash should put the bar under a police magnifying glass. Why? Because Texas lawmakers were smart enough to put regulations on bars that make them promise to serve alcohol safely, and to refuse service to anybody who is obviously intoxicated. If the bar this article mentions failed in their duty to their customer, and the public, then the bar needs to be punished right next to the drunk driver. Once bars are held liable for drunk drivers can they actually see drunk drivers as a liability.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
