Five Injured in Tanker Truck Accident on Interstate 85 in Charlotte, North Carolina

CHARLOTTE, NC — A tanker-truck collision sent five individuals to local hospitals in Charlotte, North Carolina on Wednesday, June 4th, 2014, according to a news article from WBTV.

North Carolina State Police have said that they believe five people were hurt when several vehicles, including a tanker-truck collided for reasons currently unclear to accident investigators while driving on Interstate 85 around 12:40 Wednesday afternoon.

Scene of the Accident

Five people were rushed to nearby Carolinas Medical Center with unspecified injuries.

The investigation into the accident is being handled by representatives from the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

Commentary:

This accident is really going to boil down to which of the several vehicles ensnared in this crash was at fault, but you may wonder what happens if this cannot be easily determined based on the evidence at hand, as is the case in he-said-she-said scenarios with numerous, competing theories of fault. Well this is where a system of contributory negligence would possibly come into play. This system is widely regarded as the least-favorable for victims, meaning that even if the offending driver is found to be 99 percent at fault for an accident, the single percent of fault on the victim essentially sinks all liability. This is why these accidents need to be handled with the utmost care and consideration.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
