WASHINGTON COUNTY, VA — A tractor-trailer collision with a passenger vehicle left three people dead in Washington County, Virginia on Tuesday, June 3rd, 2014, according to a news report from The Roanoke Times.
Investigators with details of the crash say 19-year-old Abel Ayele was killed when the vehicle in which he was a passenger crashed into a parked tractor-trailer that was fixing a flat while driving on Interstate 81 just before 6:30 Tuesday night.

Killed in the crash was Abel Ayele, Alemu Ameha, and Abenezer Thewdros. It is not clear if they died on the scene, or at a nearby hospital after the crash.
The investigation is currently ongoing.
Commentary:
Any time a person enters a vehicle as a passenger, the driver of that vehicle has a duty of care to make sure that both their passenger, and anybody else out on the road is unharmed by their driving behavior. If the driver of the vehicle was speeding, or driving recklessly, this accident could be on their shoulders, however, if the truck was pulled off to the side of the road with a flat when it was struck, it begs the question if any clear signage or reflectors were put out. If not, then the trucking company could bear the fault, but I’d need more information before I make that judgment call.
