San Antonio, TX — A woman was put in the hospital when she was hit by a driver suspected of being under the influence of alcohol in San Antonio, Texas, on Friday, May 30, 2104.
The accident took place around 11:30 at night, near the intersection of 36th Street and Highway 90. The woman, who’s name has not been released, was crossing the intersection when she was hit. She was taken to University Hospital. At this time, there’s no information on her current condition.
The driver was identified as Louis Moore. He stopped after the accident, and was later arrested and charged with DUI.
The accident is still being investigated.

If the driver in this accident is found to have been drunk at the time, and while drunk got behind the wheel of a vehicle and hit a pedestrian, then of course they’re in the wrong, and are going to be liable for the accident. It’s possible that if the driver had been served at a local bar, while visibly drunk, that the bar could share in some of that liability. That would be a part of Texas’ dram shop law, which was set up to help regulate the safe sale of alcohol in the state. Many think that this law does nothing more than shift the blame off of those who committed the crime, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. These laws were established because, in the case of an accident like this, it’s possible that a bar was serving someone alcohol when they should have been cut off. And that act in and of itself can possibly be a very real contributor to the accident.
