GARLAND COUNTY, AR — A head-on collision left one man dead in Garland County, Arkansas on Tuesday, May 27th, 2014, according to a news report from The Arkansas State Police Blotter.
Police say that Johnny Newkirk was killed when the vehicle he was driving collided head on with another vehicle when one of the vehicles was passing on Highway 270.

Johnny Newkirk was pronounced dead on the scene by emergency responders when they arrived. The driver of the other vehicle was not immediately hurt in the collision.
Arkansas State Police hope to release the findings of their investigation at a later date.
Commentary:
The report does not make it clear which of the vehicles entered the passing lane, but I’d be willing to venture the responsibility with the accident lies with them. Even if this was a legal passing maneuver, if the offending driver failed to make sure there was no car coming in the opposite direction, then they would be at fault for the collision, unless the article has omitted something, or I’ve missed a detail. Either way, taking a second look at this accident couldn’t hurt at all.
