DORCHESTER, SC — A collision between a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer on Tuesday, May 27th, 2014, according to a report from the Post and Courier.
Police working close to the investigation have said that they have reason to believe 28-year-old Wesley Hughes was killed when the vehicle he was in was struck by a tractor-trailer while driving on Highway 178.

The news article does not specify if Wesley Hughes was killed instantly in the accident or if he was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
Commentary:
The news article mentions that the driver noticed the truck stopped on the road by failed to avoid the accident, and the question I am left with is why? Trucks are trained to slow down and adjust their following distance behind moving moving vehicles in order to avoid an accident, what was he doing that he could not avoid an accident with a stopped truck? I’d be very interested in getting my hands and eyes on the devices the truck driver was in possession of at the time of the accident, because if he was using his phone or reprogramming his GPS, the trucking company could be held liable for the accident.
