STURGEON, MO — One man is dead and two people were hurt after a tractor-trailer truck accident in Sturgeon, Missouri on Tuesday, May 17th, 2014, according to a news release from The Colombian Missourian.
Authorities with details of the crash investigation have said that they have reason to believe 88-year-old Wendell Wehrman was killed when the vehicle he was a passenger in collided with a tractor-trailer while driving on Highway 22 around 1:30 in the afternoon Tuesday.
Scene of the Accident
Wendell Wehrman was pronounced dead on the scene. Karen Wehrman, as well as Harry Bryan were also passengers in the van, and were taken to local hospitals following the accident.
Missouri State Police are helping with the crash investigation.
Commentary:
From the way the news article paints the picture that the driver of the van could be at fault for the accident, but I’d be curious to have a closer look at the facts surrounding this accident. There is always the possibility that the news report is inaccurate, or incomplete. The truck could have been sticking out too far, or had malfunctioning signal lights, which could push some of the liability on to the trucking company for the accident. Either way, these facts are deserving of a fresh look.
