One Injured in Work Accident on Windsor Avenue in Waco, Texas

WACO, TX — At least one man was hurt in a work accident that happened in Waco, Texas on Monday, May 26th, 2014, according to a news report from KWTX.

Police say that one person was hurt when he was either shocked or burned after investigators believe the ceiling fan he was installing short circuited while working at a home on 2716 Windsor Avenue on Monday around 2:00 in the afternoon.

Scene of the Accident

The worker sustained unspecified burns and was taken to a nearby hospital.

The investigation is ongoing.

Commentary:

There are two ways this accident could go, depending on how the facts line up. Firstly, this accident will probably be a case where workers compensation steps in, if the employer is a subscriber. Unfortunately, the doctors victims are sent to have a financial interest in downplaying the severity of injuries, and have a habit of putting victims that are still recuperating back to work before they are ready. This is why I reccomend seeing your own doctor, and conducting your own leg work.

The other angle that may be at play is a faulty product. If the device he was installing suffered an electrical short, the manufacturer of the product could bear some liability if their product was designed defectively or with unsafe parts.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
