Commentary
The fact that the semi-truck exploded when it hit the tree is, of course, a little out of the ordinary. As such, there are a few questions we need to ask. Who owns the truck? Was proper maintenance being performed on it? A lot of people see these big semis driving down the road and assume that size equals safety, but that’s not at all the case. I often liken them to garden sheds bolted down to a lead plate. Very few of them even have airbags. And there have been several cases in which the placement of the truck’s fuel tanks has made it much easier for them to puncture and catch on fire in an accident. All of these things need to be looked at. However, I’d begin by looking at the maintenance the truck’s had performed on it.
