ORANGE COUNTY, TX — A tractor-trailer chain-reaction accident sent three individuals to area hospitals in Orange County, Texas on Tuesday, May 20th, 2014, according to a news release from 12 News Now.
Representatives from the Texas State Police have said that they think 30-year-old Thomas Thompson was hurt when the pickup truck he was driving collided with a flatbed truck, before all the vehicles were struck by a tractor-trailer.
Scene of the Accident
Thomas Thompson was taken by EMS personnel to Christus Hospital St Elizabeth where an update on his condition was not made available.
Also hurt in the collision was Patricia Owens and Byron Cormier.
The investigation is being handled by officials representing the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
Commentary:
While the news article goes out of its way to pin the accident on one of the victims, I also see a great deal of fault in the tractor-trailer. The fact that the truck was following so closely, or was driving so fast that it could not slow to avoid an accident that happened in front of it tells me that the driver of the truck could bear at least some portion of fault here.
