Commentary

This accident happened only a few hours ago, so there’s still a lot we don’t know. From what’s been reported in the media, it doesn’t seem as if the 18-wheeler which set the chain reaction off hit anything before losing control. If that’s the case, we’re already narrowing down the list of possible causes. It’s possible that the driver just wasn’t paying attention to the road, or saw something and tried to make a last minute correction. With an accident this big, it’s almost a given that the trucking company will have their own reconstructionists on the scene, trying to figure out what happened. People involved in these sorts of accidents need to understand that, regardless of who’s at fault, trucking companies will typically spend most of their time trying to figure out how much blame they can shift onto other parties involved. Expecting the company to step in and make things right isn’t realistic. For victims of these types of accidents, I believe that trying to find someone who can look out for your interests is always worth exploring.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
